What is a color run?
It is a family fun run/walk appropriate for all activity levels and it is noncompetitive. The racecourse is approximately a half mile long. During the race route participants will run through our “color zones.” Our volunteers will throw a safe colored powder that is corn starch based. The colored powder is safe, but some precautions may be taken (Please see “what to wear and post-race celebration” sections.)
Most of the race will be on pavement or track however parts will be on uneven grassy/gravel areas. Please use caution in these areas.
What to wear: Dress to Impress and Be a Mess!
VEF STEM T-shirt or White T Shirt. These will get colored during the race, which is part of the fun! The remainder of your clothing (shirts, pants, shoes, etc.) should be clothing that is okay to get messy. Make sure you are wearing shoes that are for running/walking activities. No flip-flops or sandals. Also have fun, wear tutus, crazy socks, hats, etc.- make the rest of you colorful and fun.
We do recommend wearing protective eye gear (a pair of sunglasses will be given to students at check in). It is also recommended to cover your mouth with either a bandana or tissue for those with respiratory issues. Our volunteers working the color zones are instructed to throw the color at the torso, but it is a powder and will be airborne.
The powder will wash off hair and skin, however very light or color treated hair may hold the color. We suggest wearing a hat or pretreating your hair with a leave-in conditioner to prevent staining.
Post-Race:
Post-race popsicles and souvenir cups are for student race participants only.
Enjoy playing and getting even messier at some of our fun STEM tables while we wait for other race participants to finish the race.
There will also be a post-race dance area and at 7:00pm extra color will be passed out for our color blast countdown! During the color blast countdown race participants will get to throw powder in the air and at their friends. Please be aware of your needs and avoid the count down if you are sensitive to the powder or suffer from asthma.
No color powder will be allowed near the area of the KONA ice truck or Mr. Drawdy’s audio equipment. It is recommended to bring a change of clothes or towels to put down for the ride home.
